Hope is like a road in the country; there was never a road, but when many people walk on it, the road comes into existence. Lin Yutang

No matter what the problem, if one has hope there are numerous possibilities that will surface and help you resolve the problem. Hope is creating that path in your mind by cutting through the negativity, the fear, the nervousness and forging ahead knowing that you have to find the answers for your problem. The quickest way to surrender to a problem is doing nothing and letting the problem engulf you. The first time you seek refuge in hope it will be extremely tough simply because you will be inundated with numerous thoughts that will stifle your enthusiasm, create doubts in your mind and occasionally frustrate you. Yet the more often you traverse the path of hope the easier it becomes for you know that the way ahead is the right way and over time you know every pitfall and pothole which you can navigate with ease.

To understand hope, recollect the story of the two frogs that fell into a huge bucket of milk. Both of them paddled furiously but found themselves hopelessly floundering in the bucket with no possibility of being able to leap out. One of the frogs despaired, gave up and soon drowned. The other frog was made of sterner stuff and she continued paddling hoping that as long as she was alive she could find an escape route. Suddenly she found herself atop a mound. The furious paddling had generated enough cream on which she suddenly found herself.  This mound of cream offered her a solid base on which to launch her leap and escape to freedom.

When one builds up the future with hope, the possibility of success is far greater. Hope provides us the balm that soothes the pain of facing unexpected challenges, the aches of laborious effort and the fever of frantic stress. Hope helps us visualize the distant dream, brings clarity to our mental blueprints and initiates action which gives us results. Many have failed not because they could not attain the goal but because they gave up hope just when the goal was within grasp. Failure often jeopardizes hope because we tend to question our own abilities. Doubt in any form cripples hope and one must be very watchful that while our failures give us the experience from which we learn they do not pour cold water on the fire of hope within us.

Hope is the axe that helps you clear the undergrowth that clutters your thinking and helps you furrow a path that takes you to your destination.

Remember:“When things are bad, we take comfort in the thought that they could always be worse. And when they are, we find hope in the thought that things are so bad they have to get better.”

Try this:

  1. Have a look at the various foot and mouth artists who did not lose HOPE when confronted with an unexpected twist of fate and instead discovered their potential http://www.mfpaindia.com/artists.php
  2. Can you look back at some of the most painful moments of your life where you nearly felt hopeless. How did you hang on to hope and how did you recover from your traumatic experience? Did positive thinking, positive people and family support make a big difference?
