Any coward can fight a battle when he’s sure of winning. George Eliot

Doubt triggers a plethora of emotions, almost all of it negative. The first emotion it triggers is that of fear; fear of failure, fear of the consequences and fear of the unknown. Not far behind is the fear of suspicion, questioning of our own capabilities, seeing things with jaundiced eyes and seeing demons where none exist. Doubts provide good manure for negative emotion, thoughts and reactions. Often, doubts paralyze our abilities, make us nervous wrecks and saps our energy.

Our thought process is often deeply influenced by doubts and if we keep giving in to our doubts all the time, it will disturb our peace of mind and in extreme cases makes one suspicious and edgy. This is a sure way to become a cynic, a negative thinker and a dooms day soothsayer. You would then be putting a spanner in every activity, raising the boogey flag and taking pleasure in failure since, failures prove your doubts right.

On the more positive side, doubts are nature’s way of cautioning us and it helps draw our attention to critical details that we may have overlooked.  Doubts can be productive if we use it as a means to cross check our facts, pause to reflect before acting and use it to reinforce our hypothesis and beliefs. A doubt applies brakes to unbridled enthusiasm and reins in the over energetic and tempers hype. Doubts provide the fire in which the irons of self belief, knowledge and action are tempered and molded to ensure success. The brave use doubts as an ally to achieve their dreams; the coward uses doubts to build and edifice of excuses.

Remember:  The advice of William Wirt “Seize the moment of excited curiosity on any subject to solve your doubts; for if you let it pass, the desire may never return, and you may remain in ignorance”

Try these:

  1. How many English words found in a standard dictionary, of four letters or more can you make from the letters given below and which must include the alphabet in RED
    • E T F S N S A. (Clue You can even make one word using all the alphabets). First write down the number of words you think you can make. Only then start attempting it. Did you exceed your expectations or were your expectations far too short of your performance? Did doubt play an important part in your estimation? (For answers to this visit my weekly blog www.poweract.blogspot.com )
  2. Do you have a passion / dream that is yet to be realized fully? What holds you back from achieving it? Is it your self doubt? If there is a will there is a way – do you believe that this is a saying that you can make it come true with respect to your passion / dream?
