You can succeed if nobody else believes it, but you will never succeed if you don’t believe in yourself.
William J.H. Boetcker

One of the most difficult task for a human being is to believe that he has strengths, traits and qualities that are special and unique. In fact most times we under perform, simply because we are too scared to raise the bar. Reality is that almost all of us can achieve our dreams provided we dream big and move our butts in the pursuit of those dreams.

The key to dreaming big and working towards our goals is self belief and self acceptance. Self belief is confidence and self acceptance is a reality check. Can we all be number one in what we seek to achieve? The truth is there can be only one number one but that doesn’t mean we cant be a podium finisher. Even the best amongst us will fail on a bad day so there is always a chance for the competition.

The crux of  self acceptance is objectivity. We need to look objectively but through the lens of positive thinking to ensure that we don’t down play our abilities nor deceive ourselves about our strengths. More often than not, we find it harder to list out our strengths than to take count of  our weakness. It is when we can see strengths where none is apparent, that our confidence soars, our hopes rise and the will to succeed ignites a passion within us.  Our critics, our competitors and the dooms day predictors can then only look on in disbelief and awe when they see us climb the ladder of success.

Remember : “Unless you’re willing to have a go, fail miserably, and have another go, success won’t happen.” Phillip Adams

Try these

  • Do a personal  SWOT analysis i.e. identify your personal Strengths, Weakness, Opportunities and Threats
  • List out 5 goals that you plan for yourself. Ensure one of them is a short term goal and that there is at least one long term goal. Also outline how you plan to achieve it and the strengths you posses to believe in it.
  • Can you visualize some of your failures? Identify the weakness in you that lead to those failures. These failures can be on failed personal relationships, lost opportunities, stunted personal and  or professional growth etc.
