Tomorrow is the mysterious, unknown guest. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

When we buy a lottery ticket or gamble in a casino or lay a wager or bet, it is hope that gives us impetus to make a payout, even when the odds are heavily stacked against us. Tomorrow is a FREE lottery given by God and Nature and it is for us to seek out the opportunities that come with the new day. The beauty of tomorrow is that we make no payout, there is a very high probability of reward (being alive to see the morrow itself is the biggest reward) and brings it with a fresh beginning, new friends and opportunities galore.

Tomorrow is like a guest who rarely comes empty handed. Some are a pain, a few are tolerable and amidst all these, there are a few whose company you enjoy. Despite these differences, we play good hosts to all the guests, thank them for their time and company and invite them again and often leave them with the promise of a return visit. Tomorrow is a guest that encompasses all these traits with one difference; the traits we see in tomorrow depend on us, our moods, our temperament, out thinking and our emotions. If you decide to have a good day, a good time, and have a song on our lips, tomorrow is the most welcome guest.

Alas, far too often we look at tomorrow as a piggy bank to deposit our unpleasant chores, the tough tasks that we hate to do, relegate to the back burner what irritates and bothers us (like seeing a doctor for our illness). Tomorrow unfortunately then, becomes a piggy bank carrying excuses, regrets, sorrows and apologies. Look at tomorrow not as a piggy bank but as the Bank of Life – doling out abundance of hope, exciting gifts wrapped in various hues of friends, lucky breaks, self growth and tons of Opportunities.

Remember: The only limit to our realization of tomorrow will be our doubts of today. Franklin D. Roosevelt

Try these

  • List out the undone work of today, prioritize them and keep it ready to be tackled tomorrow. Add new work and chores for the day each morning to this list. Focus on doing the most dreaded work, the toughest chores and the unpleasant tasks and you will love your today and eagerly await tomorrow.
  • Do you have a planner to list down the tasks on due dates whether it is bill payments, sending greetings, scheduling appointments etc.? Make it a habit and where possible (like sending greetings) do it well on time.
  • Who and how will you surprise tomorrow; make a list every night before going to bed. You will be amazed how much pleasure you get by being the surprise guest in other peoples lives.
